Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic non-communicable disease that occurs when the body is unable to produce enough insulin. At the Mangkubumi Community Health Center, two cases of diabetes mellitus were found in 17-year-old adolescents, indicating that DM is beginning to affect the school-age group, requiring special attention for early prevention. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and peer support regarding diabetes mellitus prevention practices at SMAN 10, Tasikmalaya City. The method used in this study was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design and a descriptive-analytical approach. A sample of 317 respondents was selected using proportional stratified random sampling with a spin wheel application as a tool. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The results showed no relationship between knowledge and DM prevention practices practices (p = 0,142; ρ = 0,083), a relationship between attitudes toward diabetes prevention practices (p = 0.003; ρ = 0.165), and a relationship between peer support and diabetes prevention practices (p = 0,000; ρ = 0,195). It was concluded that there was no significant relationship between knowledge and DM prevention practices, and there was a significant relationship between attitudes and peer support toward DM prevention practices.
