Abstract

Foodborne disease is a health problem caused by consuming contaminated food that occurs at all stages of production. Poor hygiene and sanitation practices can be a factor in emergence of foodborne illnesses. One of the working area of the Karangsari community health center in Karangsari, which has the highest number of diarhea cases, totaling 358 patients with the majority being children aged 5-14 years. In 2023, there was an extraordinary event (KLB) of food poisoning with total of 43 patients most of whom 23 patients were aged 5-14 years. This study aims to analyze the relationship between food handler’s knowledge and attitudes and the implementation of food sanitation hygiene at elementary school snack food stalls in Karangsari village. The method used in this study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design and an analytical observation approach. The sample consisted of 64 food handlers using a total sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using chi square test. The result showed that there is a relationship between knowledge and the implementation of food sanitation hygiene (p-value= 0,001), while there is no relationship between attitude and the implementation of food sanitation hygiene (p-value 0,21). It is concluded that there is a relationship between knowledge and the implementation of food sanitation hygiene, and there is no relationship between attitude and the implementation of food sanitation hygiene.
