Abstract

Background: Quality of life is considered an essential measure in evaluating the health
condition of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. As a chronic disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus
can lead to various complications that may negatively affect patients’ physical, psychological,
and social well-being. Objective: This study was conducted to identify factors related to the
quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at UPTD Puskesmas Mangkubumi,
Tasikmalaya City, in 2026. Method: A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was
applied. The study population included 175 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and 121
respondents were selected through accidental sampling. Data were processed using univariate
and bivariate analyses with the chi-square test. Result: The findings indicated significant
relationships between age (p=0.011; OR=2.925), complications (p=0.022; OR=2.333),
physical activity (p=0.043; OR=3.536), diabetes mellitus management (p=0.010; OR=2.840),
and family support (p=0.021; OR=2.543) with the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes
mellitus. In contrast, income level (p=1.000) and obesity (BMI) (p=0.424) were not
significantly associated with quality of life. Conclusion: The quality of life of patients with type
2 diabetes mellitus is affected by age, complications, physical activity, disease management,
and family support. Therefore, improving self-care practices, increasing physical activity, and
strengthening family support are important to improve patients’ quality of life.
