Abstract

Abstract

This study investigated how the academic performance of 76 11th-grade students at SMAS Kosgoro in Bogor was influenced by smartphone use, sleep disturbances, and physical activity. It also examined the mediating role of physical activity. An associative quantitative method was employed, using SmartPLS to conduct Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) analysis. A stratified purposive sampling method was used to select the sample. The SAS-SV, SQS, IPAQ-Short, and report card documentation were used to collect data. The results indicate that all seven hypotheses were accepted. Smartphone use had a significant negative effect on academic achievement (beta -0.245; p 0.006), while sleep disturbances (beta 0.214; p 0.032) and physical activity had significant effects. Smartphone use (beta 0.428; p 0.000) and sleep disturbances (beta 0.316; p 0.001)—both independent variables affecting academic achievement—were found to be mediated by physical activity. This model was deemed appropriate, with an SRMR of 0.099. The results indicate that maintaining students’ sleep health is crucial for their academic success.
