Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The manuscript file is in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or OpenDocument (.odt) format and follows the journal template.
  • The manuscript is anonymised for double-blind review: author names, affiliations, and acknowledgements are removed from the text and from the file properties, and are given only in the separate Title Page file.
  • The manuscript is within the word limit of the chosen section, and includes an abstract of 200 to 250 words and 3 to 5 keywords.
  • References and in-text citations follow APA 7th edition as described in the Author Guidelines, and DOIs or URLs are provided where available.
  • Ethical approval or an exemption statement, and informed consent from participants and community partners, are stated in the manuscript where applicable.
  • Funding sources, competing interests, and any use of generative AI tools are disclosed in the declarations section.
  • All figures, tables, and photographs are the authors' own or are used with permission, and photographs of identifiable people are used with their written consent.
  • The authors have checked the manuscript for similarity and understand that manuscripts above 20% similarity (excluding references) are returned or rejected.

Author Guidelines

Before you submit

  • Check that your manuscript fits the aims and scope of Sauyunan (see the About the Journal page: https://ejournal.unsil.ac.id/index.php/sauyunan/about). Basic educational research that is not tied to a community engagement programme belongs in our sister journal, Paguron. Reports that only describe activities, without a method, outcomes, and evaluation, are not accepted.
  • Submit original work that has not been published and is not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Register or log in at https://ejournal.unsil.ac.id/index.php/sauyunan/user/register, then start a new submission.

Article types and length

  • Community Engagement Articles (CEA): 4,000 to 7,000 words including references; abstract of 200 to 250 words; 3 to 5 keywords.
  • Case Studies and Collaboration Models (CSM): 4,000 to 7,000 words including references; abstract of 200 to 250 words; 3 to 5 keywords.

Manuscript preparation

  • Language: English. Have the manuscript checked by a proficient English speaker or a language editing service before submission.
  • Template: use the journal template (download link: [ISI]).
  • Structure: Introduction (community problem and context); Engagement design (partners, participants, location, duration); Implementation method; Outcomes; Evaluation and discussion (supported by data such as pre-post measures, interviews, or documented change); Conclusion, including sustainability and transferability; Declarations; References.
  • Tables and figures: place them in the text with numbered captions; tables must be editable text, not images; figures should be at least 300 dpi and readable in black and white.
  • References: follow APA 7th edition for in-text citations and the reference list. Every cited work must appear in the list and the reverse. Give DOIs as full URLs (https://doi.org/...). Cite mainly peer-reviewed sources. A reference manager such as Zotero or Mendeley is recommended. When asked for the references during submission, enter them one per line.

Anonymous review

  • Reviews are double-blind. Remove author names, affiliations, and acknowledgements from the manuscript, including the file properties, and refer to your own earlier work in the third person.
  • Upload a separate Title Page file containing the title, all author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, the corresponding author's email address, acknowledgements, and funding. The title page is not sent to reviewers.

Ethics and integrity

  • Research or programmes involving human participants must state ethical approval or an exemption statement, and consent from participants and community partners.
  • Photographs of identifiable people may be used only with their written consent.
  • Disclose funding sources and competing interests. Authors without a conflict should state "none".
  • Disclose any use of generative AI tools in preparing the manuscript. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and the authors remain responsible for the content.
  • All listed authors must have contributed to the work. Changes to the author list after submission require the written consent of all authors.
  • All manuscripts are screened for similarity. Manuscripts above 20% similarity (excluding references) are returned to the authors or rejected.

Review and publication

  • Each manuscript is screened by the editorial office and, if it passes, reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. The first decision is normally given within 8 weeks of submission.
  • There are no submission charges and no article processing charges.
  • Authors retain copyright. Articles are published open access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Questions about submission can be sent to [email protected].
