Journal of Energy and Electrical Engineering (JEEE) recognizes the development and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in scientific research and academic publishing. This policy establishes guidelines for the responsible, ethical, and transparent use of AI-assisted tools in manuscript preparation and publication.
(1) Permitted Use of Artificial Intelligence
Authors may use AI-assisted tools to support manuscript preparation, including grammar checking, language editing, translation, proofreading, and improving the clarity and readability of scientific writing. AI tools may also assist with organizing information and supporting research activities, provided that their use is appropriately disclosed and scientifically justified. All scientific arguments, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions must remain under the responsibility of the authors.
(2) Maximum AI-Generated Content Threshold (30%)
JEEE establishes a maximum AI-generated text detection score of 30% as an initial editorial screening threshold for submitted manuscripts. Authors are expected to ensure that their manuscripts demonstrate substantial original intellectual contributions and comply with this requirement.
Manuscripts with an AI detection score exceeding 30% may be returned to the authors for clarification, revision, and resubmission. The editorial team will evaluate the screening results alongside the manuscript's originality, scientific quality, and author declarations.
AI detection results are considered preliminary indicators and do not constitute definitive evidence of AI-generated content. Editorial decisions will not be based solely on automated detection scores.
(3) Transparency and Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools that substantially contribute to manuscript preparation, data analysis, or research processes. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used, explain its purpose, and describe the extent of its contribution.
The following statement may be included in the manuscript when applicable:
"The authors used [AI tool name] to assist with [specific purpose]. All AI-assisted outputs were reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors, who take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript."
Routine spelling and grammar correction tools that do not substantially generate or alter scientific content generally do not require a formal AI disclosure.
(4) Prohibited Use of Artificial Intelligence
JEEE strictly prohibits the use of AI technologies for fabricating or falsifying research data, generating fictitious references, manipulating experimental results, misrepresenting scientific findings, or producing misleading information. AI-generated text must not replace the authors' original scientific contributions.
Authors must verify all references, numerical results, technical explanations, and scientific claims generated or assisted by AI tools. AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work.
(5) Author Responsibility and Research Integrity
Authors are fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and ethical integrity of their manuscripts, including content developed with AI assistance. The use of AI does not reduce the authors' responsibility to comply with JEEE's publication ethics, plagiarism policy, and applicable research integrity standards.
When AI or machine learning algorithms constitute part of the research methodology, authors must provide sufficient methodological information to support scientific transparency, reproducibility, and evaluation.
(6) AI Use in Editorial and Peer Review Processes
Editors and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Manuscript content, unpublished research data, and confidential review materials must not be uploaded to unauthorized public AI platforms.
Any use of AI-assisted tools in editorial evaluation must comply with confidentiality requirements and must not replace independent scientific judgment.
(7) Editorial Screening and Policy Compliance
JEEE reserves the right to conduct AI-assisted content screening during the initial editorial evaluation and subsequent stages of manuscript assessment.
If a manuscript exceeds the 30% AI detection threshold or raises concerns regarding undisclosed or inappropriate AI use, the editorial team may request clarification, revision, or additional supporting information from the authors.
Manuscripts involving confirmed violations of research integrity or publication ethics may be rejected or subject to further editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.
(8) Policy References
This policy is informed by internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), particularly regarding transparency, accountability, confidentiality, and the responsible use of AI in scholarly publishing.
